I'm leaving for Emily's graduation with Julie... ten minutes ago. Which I suppose means whenever Julie gets here. It's not like her to be late, so I'm wondering if she forgot where I live or something. Probably a silly thing to worry about.

The manner in which I finally got in touch with Julie to get a ride with her to Roanoke was absolutely ridiculous. I called her yesterday morning from my parents' house and left a message on her machine with my parents' phone and my home phone, telling her when I'd be where. Then when I got home last night around 10, I called her again and left another message. Then I called again at midnight and left yet another message. Finally, I called at 12:30 and spoke to one of her housemates. I identified myself and said that I'd left three messages on the machine, but could the housemate please leave Julie a note just letting her know to call me absolutely anytime, even at three in the morning. I thanked said housemate profusely and went to bed.

A little before two, I got a phone call. I was fast asleep at the time, so it took me a minute to figure out what was going on. Eventually I realized that it was Julie, quite confused about who she was on the phone with. Apparently she got the impression that it was Gwynna, Emily's roommate, who had left her eight gazillion messages, and she'd tried to call Gwynna in Roanoke at two in the morning before actually dialing the number I'd left on her machine. I felt horribly guilty, but she said it was okay and we agreed that she would come pick me up at six.

Somehow I managed not to wake up until 5:49. Responsible me. But I was showered and dressed in my little red flowered sundress and had my hair and teeth brushed by 6:05 (somehow), and now Julie's not here. Responsible Julie. I feel quite silly.

I suppose I'll go putter around nervously until she shows up.
