01.06.19 . . . 23.02

I have to get up by 7:00 tomorrow morning. We'll see how well that goes. My parents are coming to visit tomorrow, so I have to be at work at 8 so I can get in five hours at the Blake Archive before meeting them for lunch at 1:15. If I'd known they were coming, I would have packed in lots of hours on Monday so it wouldn't matter if I took time off. Damn. And I have to do a bit of room-cleaning before they get here, too. Nothing too serious, though.

I'm applying to grad school. I'm somewhat surprised at myself, but I've pretty much decided now that unless some fabulous job comes along before December or so, I'm applying to M.A. and M.F.A. programs in creative writing. That doesn't mean I'll definitely go; it just means I'm applying. So right now, the foot of my bed has six carefully labeled folders on it, each containing application information. The folders are labeled Hollins University, University of Virginia, Sarah Lawrence College, University of Iowa, Columbia University, and Brown University.

Researching schools and downloading applications is the easy part. Getting straight A's next semester and putting together a portfolio... those are tougher. But. I'm starting in June, so hopefully that will make things easier.

I should find out when I can take the GREs. Fortunately for my sanity, none of the programs I'm considering applying to requires or even recommends the English subject test. My knowledge of English literature could not be called well-rounded. I'm not too freaked out by the idea of taking the general GREs... although maybe by the time I actually have to take them, I will be.

I want Emily to be home. I'll have to go check. I have no idea where she's been today... not that she isn't allowed to go out or anything, just that she isn't working today. I haven't seen much of her these past few days (except last night, when we watched Billy Elliot together), and that makes me sad.

I like the adrenaline rush of researching schools, though. I had forgotten how much fun it can be.
